Warehouse Story: “New Guys, Big Mess” 📦
Story
1) Welcome to North Dock Warehouse. Today the warehouse hires three new guys: Max, Lena, and Omar. They are nice, but they are very new. The supervisor, Ms. Brown, says: “We work fast, but we must be correct. Always check the packing list. Always count the quantity.”
2) Max gets his first order: Order 21. He looks at the packing list. It says: 10 items. Max is excited. He starts to pick items quickly. He picks items, puts them in a box, and smiles. He thinks: “Easy!” But Max does not count the quantity. He does not compare with the packing list. He just says: “Done.”
3) Lena gets Order 33. She is careful, but she is nervous. She picks the items and then she counts. She counts: “One, two, three…” She gets 9 items. But the packing list says 8 items. Lena stops. She checks again. She is not sure. She looks at the list, then at the items, then at the list again. She does not know what to do next.
4) Omar gets Order 40. He wants to do everything correctly. He picks the items. He checks the packing list. It says: 7 items. Omar counts: “One… seven.” He has 7 items. Omar is happy. But then he makes one mistake: he puts the packing list under the box and walks away. The packing list is now lost. The order has items, but there is no packing list with the box.
5) Ms. Brown walks to the dock. She sees three boxes with three orders. She starts with Max’s box. She checks the packing list: 10 items. She counts the quantity in the box: 9 items. She says: “Max, we have a shortage. One item is missing.” Max looks shocked. He says: “I picked fast… but I did not count.”
6) Then Ms. Brown checks Lena’s box. Packing list says: 8 items. Quantity in the box is 9 items. Ms. Brown says: “Lena, your quantity is not the same. You must compare again and then report.” Lena says: “I counted, but I was nervous.” Ms. Brown says: “Good that you counted. Now do the next step.”
7) Finally, Ms. Brown checks Omar’s order. The items are correct, the quantity is correct, but the packing list is missing. Ms. Brown says: “Omar, the order is not ready. We must have the packing list.” Omar says: “I checked and counted, but I lost the list.” Ms. Brown says: “Report it to the supervisor.” Omar says: “But you are the supervisor.” Ms. Brown smiles: “Yes. Report it to me.”
8) Ms. Brown makes a simple rule for all new guys: “Pick. Check. Count. Compare. Report. Confirm.” The team repeats the rule together. This time, they do it slowly — and correctly.
