Many people keep pets because animals make life warmer and more interesting. A dog can be a friend, a guard, and a reason to walk every day. A cat can make a flat feel comfortable. Some people keep rabbits, hamsters, fish, parrots, or turtles because they are small and interesting to watch.
Pets can help people feel less lonely. After a difficult day, a person comes home, and the pet is waiting. The dog is wagging its tail. The cat is sitting on the sofa. The parrot is making noise. It feels like somebody is happy to see you.
But pets are not toys. They need food, water, time, care, and money. Owners should clean after them, take them to the vet, and think about their safety. A good owner understands that a pet is a responsibility.
