Part 1. A free car
Artem was nineteen. He worked in a warehouse in July and August and saved some money. On the last Saturday before college, his friends Misha and Denis wanted to go to a lake. Artem's older brother had an old car, but he was away for the weekend.
Artem found the keys at home. He did not ask his brother. “We only need it for a few hours,” he told his friends. The weather app showed heavy rain, but the sky was still clear. They bought food, put music on and left at six in the evening.
- How old was Artem?
- Where did he work?
- Who wanted to go to the lake?
- Who owned the car?
- Did Artem ask before taking it?
- What warning did they see?
- Was the weather bad when they left?
Part 2. Thirty-two kilometres
The main road to the lake was 55 kilometres. The map also showed a 32-kilometre shortcut. “We can save twenty minutes,” Denis said. At first, the shortcut was fine. Then the asphalt ended. Five minutes later, heavy rain started.
The road became soft and muddy. Artem wanted to turn back, but it was too late. The wheels moved, but the car did not. They were stuck. It was getting dark, and their phones had a very weak signal.
- Which road was longer?
- How much time did they hope to save?
- When did the asphalt end?
- What changed after the rain?
- Why could the car not move?
- What was wrong with their phones?
- What would you do first?
