🧑🏫 Explain It So They Can Do It
Online mission: turn a vague explanation into instructions another person can actually follow.
Fast choice: Choose picture 1, 2, 3 or 4. What is the teacher helping the student do?
Answer frame: The teacher is showing the student how to ______. The student needs to ______.
1. Why do instructions fail?
A teacher says: “Open it, do this part, and then finish it normally.”
| Task | Your answer |
|---|---|
| Find four missing details. | What to open? Which action? Which order? What does “finished” look like? |
| Repair the instruction. | First, open the file. Next, rename it. Then save it in the class folder. Finally, check the file name. |
Rule: good instructions contain an action, an object, an order and a check.
2. The four-part instruction test
| Part | Question | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ▶ Action | What must the student do? | Put on the goggles. |
| 🔧 Object | What do they use or change? | Measure the metal part. |
| 1→2 Order | What comes first and next? | First..., then... |
| ✅ Check | How do they know it is correct? | Check that the value is zero. |
Mini-test: “Measure it carefully” has action ✓, but it is missing the exact object, order and final check.
