🚗 Customer Intake: Don't Guess, Ask
Next step after “The Car Would Not Start”: a mechanic must turn the customer's story into useful diagnostic information.
Online mission: ask the right questions, record symptoms and avoid an early guess.
1. Symptom or diagnosis?
| Customer can report | Mechanic must investigate |
|---|---|
| The engine does not start. | Why it does not start. |
| I hear a clicking sound. | Battery, starter or connection. |
| A red light is on. | Which warning light and when it appeared. |
| There is a smell after driving. | Source, temperature and possible leak. |
Rule: a symptom is evidence; a diagnosis is a conclusion after checks.
2. Four questions before one opinion
Customer: “My car would not start this morning.”
- What happened when you turned the key?
- Did you hear any sound?
- Were the lights weak or normal?
- Was there a warning light?
Mini-test: “It is definitely the battery” is weak because the mechanic has not collected enough evidence.
